Auto Skip

Auto Skip is a YouTube-only SkipZS feature that automatically skips supported YouTube video advertisements when the Skip button becomes available.

Overview

To use Auto Skip seamlessly, you need to enable Auto Skip and authorize Trusted Auto Skip. Trusted Auto Skip provides the additional Chrome permission required for SkipZS to perform the supported higher-privilege interaction when a normal click on a YouTube Skip button is not accepted.

Before You Start

Auto Skip works only on YouTube.

Make sure you are using Google Chrome and have SkipZS installed and enabled.

Setting Up Auto Skip

Open SkipZS on YouTube

Open YouTube and navigate to the page where you want to use Auto Skip.

Click the SkipZS extension icon in the Chrome toolbar.

The SkipZS interface will open.

Open the Home section.

Turn On Auto Skip

In the Home section, find the Auto Skip option.

Auto Skip is turned off by default.

Turn on Auto Skip.

When Auto Skip is enabled, SkipZS will display the Trusted Auto Skip setup popup.

This popup explains the additional permission required for the full Auto Skip functionality.

Review the Trusted Auto Skip Information

The Trusted Auto Skip popup explains that the feature requires Chrome's debugger permission to perform a higher-privilege mouse interaction for supported YouTube Skip buttons when YouTube does not accept a normal click.

The permission is intended specifically for supported YouTube video advertisement Skip controls.

What the permission means

Chrome controls its own debugger security indicator. SkipZS does not suppress or hide this indicator.

The debugger connection is intended to be temporary for an individual skip operation rather than being used as a general developer session.

SkipZS operates locally inside the browser and does not send browsing data to an external server or external analytics service.

If a skippable advertisement appears while the Skip button is outside the current viewport, SkipZS may temporarily bring the Skip button into view so that the skip operation can be performed. After the operation is completed, SkipZS restores the previous page position.

Normal SkipZS features continue to work when Trusted Auto Skip is disabled or unauthorized.

Prevent the Setup Popup from Appearing Again

If you do not want the Trusted Auto Skip setup popup to appear every time you turn Auto Skip off and on, use the check mark provided in the popup before continuing.

Select the check mark and continue with the authorization.

If you leave the option unchecked, the setup popup may appear again when the relevant setup flow is triggered.

Open Settings

After turning on Auto Skip, open the Settings section in SkipZS.

Find the Auto Skip settings.

You will see the Smart Detection option near the beginning of this section.

Smart Detection is automatically enabled when Trusted Auto Skip is enabled.

Find Trusted Auto Skip

In the Auto Skip settings, locate the Trusted Auto Skip option.

This is the required authorization for the higher-privilege interaction used by Auto Skip.

Turn on Trusted Auto Skip.

A permission popup will appear.

Authorize Trusted Auto Skip

Review the information in the popup.

When you are ready to continue, click Authorize Trusted Auto Skip.

Complete any Chrome permission prompt that appears.

Once the authorization is completed, Trusted Auto Skip will be enabled.

Smart Detection will also be enabled automatically.

Auto Skip is now ready to automatically skip supported YouTube advertisements when the Skip button becomes available.

Use Auto Skip

Return to YouTube and continue using the site normally.

When a supported YouTube advertisement is playing and the Skip button becomes available, SkipZS will automatically perform the skip.

No manual interaction with the Skip button is required.

Auto Skip Settings

Additional Auto Skip settings are available under Settings in the Auto Skip section.

These settings allow you to control notifications and ad muting behavior.

Skip Notification

The Skip Notification option controls the notification displayed when SkipZS automatically skips an advertisement.

You can turn this option off if you do not want to see skip notifications.

This setting only controls the notification. Turning it off does not disable Auto Skip.

Mute Ads

The Mute Ads option allows SkipZS to automatically mute upcoming advertisements.

When Mute Ads is enabled, supported advertisements can be muted automatically.

This functionality is separate from automatic ad skipping.

You can use the mute controls together with Auto Skip, or use the ad-muting functionality separately through Manual Mode.

Mute Ads Keyboard Shortcuts

The Mute Ads functionality also supports keyboard shortcuts.

XPress and hold the X key to temporarily unmute an advertisement that is currently muted. While the X key is being held, the advertisement is temporarily unmuted. When you release the X key, the advertisement is automatically muted again.
XorXTo permanently unmute a muted advertisement, double-click the X key. To permanently mute the advertisement again, double-click the X key again.

Mute Notification

The Mute Notification option controls the notification displayed when an advertisement is muted.

You can turn this option off if you do not want to see mute notifications.

This setting only controls the notification and does not disable the Mute Ads functionality.

Manual Mode

The ad-muting functionality can also be used without Auto Skip.

If you want to use ad muting without automatic advertisement skipping, enable the Mute Ads option while leaving Auto Skip disabled.

In this mode, the ad-muting functionality can operate independently without enabling the automatic skipping feature.

Optional Auto Skip Settings

Other options available in the Auto Skip settings can be turned on or off according to your preference.

These optional settings do not determine whether Auto Skip can perform its core automatic skipping function.

The required setup for automatic skipping is Auto Skip enabled and Trusted Auto Skip authorized.

Chrome Debugger Security Notification

Whenever Trusted Auto Skip performs a supported skip operation, Chrome may display its own security or debugging indicator.

You may see a message such as:

SkipZS started debugging this browser

This is not an error

This is not an error and does not indicate a problem with SkipZS.

It is a Chrome security feature that indicates that the extension is using Chrome's debugging capability for the authorized Auto Skip operation.

SkipZS cannot prevent or hide this Chrome security indicator.

The debugger connection is intended to be temporary for the individual skip operation, and the indicator will automatically close or disappear after the operation.

If you see this message when an advertisement is skipped, no action is required.

Revoke Trusted Auto Skip Authorization

You can revoke the Trusted Auto Skip permission at any time.

Open Settings and go to the Auto Skip settings.

Find the Revoke Authorization option.

Click Revoke Authorization.

A confirmation popup will appear with two options:

  • Keep Authorization
  • Revoke Authorization

If you want to keep the existing permission, select Keep Authorization.

If you want to remove the permission, select Revoke Authorization.

After you select Revoke Authorization, the Trusted Auto Skip permission will be removed.

Automatic skipping will stop because SkipZS will no longer have the required Trusted Auto Skip authorization.

You can authorize Trusted Auto Skip again later if you want to restore the full Auto Skip functionality.

  • Open YouTube, open SkipZS, and go to the Home section.
  • Turn on Auto Skip.
  • Follow the Trusted Auto Skip setup popup.
  • Open Settings.
  • Find the Auto Skip settings.
  • Find Trusted Auto Skip.
  • Turn it on.
  • Click Authorize Trusted Auto Skip.
  • Complete the Chrome authorization.

Once authorization is complete, Auto Skip is ready to automatically skip supported YouTube advertisements.
